Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
The manager lamented familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with outcomes this poor.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
