It all began with a solitary photograph, perhaps the most consequential ever captured of a member of the monarchy.

Present was the Earl of Inverness, arm-in-arm a young woman, while another individual smiled knowingly in the rear.

Absent that snapshot, shot at a gathering in 2001, it would have been difficult to accept the assertions of a young woman who declared she was moved across the ocean and obliged to have perfunctory intimate contact with a member of the royal family?

A curious, revealing move by someone who had openly claimed to have no heard of her, asserted he could no have had relations with her, and yet provided a substantial sum of his mother's money to avert a drawn-out lawsuit.

Years of Scandal

Against this backdrop, discussions of the monarchy acting decisively to sever ties with Andrew are inaccurate. This affair has continued for the majority of 15 years since that picture, and a further image of Andrew walking congenially with a disgraced financier surfaced.

• Arrogance: For what duration did his family members, maybe even his relatives, know that Andrew was so self-entitled?
• Problematic Connections: They must have understood, if his employees and the authorities were doing their jobs, that he had some highly questionable associates given he openly invited them to estates.
• Fiscal Irresponsibility: If the household did not know about his intimate behaviors, they certainly knew about his overspending with public money.

Journeys were printed in official documents: private aircraft travel from the estate to a country club and back again in time for dining, chartered planes instead of commercial flights, all for the benefit of "the travel enthusiast".

A Life of Privilege

Additionally the presumption which required respect when he appeared in a area or the supreme obsession about his designations used on his official documents in communication to his personal acquaintances.

He avoided accountability while his mother, who unaccountably indulged him, was still living. The monarch did at least strip him of royal responsibilities and military positions in the aftermath of his ill-fated and, as revealed, mendacious television interview six years ago.

Society (and the press) were far more perceptive of the royal family. There was not a single person of any importance to speak up for him, a consequence of all those years of presumption.

Royal Worries

The more astute monarchical figures realized that. The primary concern is to hand down the monarchy, if not as previously at least whole and unstained.

Over time the last 190 years trying to undo the reputation of earlier rulers, proving they are beneficial, accountable and attentive to their people.

Andrew was putting all that in jeopardy in an era when deference and privacy is no longer sufficient.

Aftermath

Finally, the well-known hesitant king was pushed additional. There was little choice. The royal household had relinquished authority of the story.

Currently the loss of titles and the ongoing and lifetime public humiliation that will hurt Andrew most severely.

Finally it is presumption, self-seeking and indolence that will undermine the institution. In his stupidity, self-gratification and greed, Andrew seems never to have grasped that truth.
