The Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup Versus the Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their first championship series since 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Down three runs to one, Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now hit 23 post-season home runs, ranking him third in history after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another player anywhere that I'd choose in that spot other than George Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the one club yet to make an appearance in a championship series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" in the wake of his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their performance throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we ended up on the losing end of this game," he added.
Toronto claimed the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
