The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to tackle corruption within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, plot details hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

The Scottish actor described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".

The BBC has not yet announced when the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
