The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Track

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching personal histories for characters including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition created by artist the talented musician. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on Spotify and the video site.
